Project SAFE-UComm
NATO Science for Peace and Security project SAFE-UComm nearing completion
Project SAFE-UComm, which received the support of the NATO Science for Peace and Security program under grant G5884, is scheduled to complete in February 2024.
The project investigates a cybersecurity framework for underwater acoustic communications, including practical solutions for authentication, secret key exchange, analysis of bounds for low probability of detection and interception, as well as the use and detection of biomimetic signals attempting to resemble natural underwater fauna sounds.
SAFE-UComm aims at providing solutions for existing underwater transceivers, rather than intervening in the modem’s design.
